Govinda

Mumbai, (IANS) Filmmaker Jagmohan Mundhra’s sex comedy with Govinda is titled “Excuse Me, Please”. The actor plays a 40-year-old virgin in the movie and says he will pretend he is one.”Yes, it is a sex comedy. How do I play a 40-year-old virgin? I’ll just have to fake it, ha ha. I guess that’s what acting is. I’ve never touched alcohol in my life. But I’ve played a drunkard. Till the age of 36, I had never eaten non-vegetarian food,” Govinda told IANS.

Remember the notorious song “Sarkaiy lo khatiya” that Govinda performed with Karisma Kapoor in “Raja Babu” 14 years ago? In “Excuse Me, Please”, he is once again shooting a full-on desi rollicking version of the comedy. The movie went on the floors June 1 in London.

What interests Govinda in the project is his return to a raunchy risqué realm, which many thought he had left behind.

“Why should I leave it behind? I am what I am today because of those films with David Dhawan like ‘Hero No. 1′ and ‘Raja Babu’. I am not ashamed of ‘Sarkaiy lo…’

“At the time when it was filmed, I said sorry because it offended some people. But going by what’s permissible on screen today, I’d say me and Karisma did nothing harmful.”

In Mundhra’s film Govinda plays a commitment-phobic nerd who wants sex but no marriage.

“The subject was earlier explored in Akshaye Khanna’s character in Nikhil Advani’s ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’. All of us want the perks of a relationship with the opposite sex, including sex. But no youngster wants to be tied down with marriage. I sat down with Mundhra and discussed the script. I don’t think the original material would’ve worked in our context.

“We’ve altered the subject to make it a comment on the young NRI generation in England, which gets a liberal chance to mix with the fairer sex of all nationalities.

sunil shetty

It is tough time for Sunil Shetty these days. Sunil has been receiving threat calls from a stuntman named Puran Chauhan from Delhi. Chauhan is physically challenged and is a member of Mumbai stuntsmen union. He was hired to work on Shetty’s production ‘Little Godfather’ and had been paid about 2 lakhs for his services. But, Chauhan who had assured the makers that he would help them in getting permission to shoot on railway premises failed to keep up his promise and so was removed from the job.

It was then that he started calling and blackmailing Shetty. When he used abusive language and threatened to harm his family, Sunil lost his cool, abused him back and then, Chauhan recorded the conversation and began blackmailing him.

Shetty has registered a complaint with three different police stations in Mumbai. On the other hand, Chauhan has also filed a complaint against Shetty in Delhi, alleging that the actor-producer has been threatening and abusing him.

Sunil then decided to lie low about the alleged threats only because of his family. He waited until the children’s summer holidays, packed off his entire family for a prolonged vacation until the end of August and then decided to take on the man headlong.

In fact Sunil has given a list of the people who were persuading him to make a compromise with the extortionist to the cops.

“I’m no longer losing sleep because the cops are on the guy’s trail and my family is far away and safe. Once the fear of family flies out, there’s nothing to stop from taking on my tormentors,” says Sunil.

These days Sunil is shooting for Anant Mahadevan’s ‘Red Alert’ in the jungles.

Irrfan Khan

Mumbai, (IANS) Irrfan Khan is a self-confessed Mira Nair fan. But he has said no to the director’s next film with Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead.”I first said yes to her. But then when I read the script I begged off. This was a series of short films for Cannes. I didn’t want to go in that space of marital discords. I’ve had more than my share of these tales of the marital journey. I opted out,” Irrfan told IANS.

Mira refused to let Irrfan go until she found a replacement. “But I think they got Ranbir (Shorey).”

On the other hand, Irrfan was deeply challenged by Mira’s “Kosher Vegetarian” where he is paired with Natalie Portman.

“We shot at one stretch. It’s about two strangers meeting in unusual circumstances. Natalie Portman is about to get married. I play this Gujarati diamond merchant whose wife has become a sanyasini.

“His dilemma is that she used to be his wife and now he has to worship her. Given the circumstances, their encounter is quite something. Natalie looks very young. But she has been acting as a child. A truly wonderful actress. I enjoyed working with her.”

So how different was it working with a Caucasian actress for the first time?

“The colour of the skin makes no difference. Whether it was Tabu or Natalie, actors all over the world are linked by a common craving. We’re all looking for challenges and glory. Tabu and I didn’t interact at all during ‘The Namesake’. She was preoccupied and casual. That’s her way of working. I feel awful about the way media unnecessarily hyped her Oscar chances for ‘The Namesake’.”

Speaking on the experience of shooting “Kosher Vegetarian”, Irrfan says, “After ‘The Namesake’ I’ve become an ardent fan of Mira the moviemaker and the person.

“Some things just happen. Doing ‘The Namesake’, I never thought it’d turn out this way. The pleasure of watching it is unbelievable. After ‘Monsoon Wedding’ I was foolish enough to think Mira can’t take it any further. In ‘The Namesake’ she took her art to another level.”

Although the Big B has made blogging into something of a national rage, not everyone in Bollywood is into it. Ram Gopal Varma is certainly not Blogging. “I don’t know how or where this whole rumour of my blogging started. I didn’t deny it because blogging sounds like something really naughty. I played along because it sounded like a fun thing to do.”

Chuckling at his own cleverness Ramu says, “The fact is, I’m completely net illiterate. I don’t even know how to put on the computer or type into it, let alone write in a blog. I see no need to interact with people on a daily basis.”

Regarding the cancellation of the mock-rally for the Sarkar Raj event, Ramu says, “T Series and I were supposed to have this public function for the release of the film’s music. But now it’s cancelled. There will be no music-release function.”

Bollywood and cricket have always been an attraction for each other. Where our Bolly beauties can’t resist the Cricket superstars, the cricketers cannot resist the temptation of the silver screen. Jackie_Shroff

Jackie Shroff has sold his ‘Le Papyon’ home in Mount Mary this month and is now on a ferocious house hunt for a five-bedroom dream home for his family. “My kids Tiger and Krishna have grown up so they need their own rooms as do my wife Ayesha and I. Ayesha’s mom is now living with us and needs her room. That makes it four bedrooms and we’ll need a guest room too. That’s why I sold the house,” he says.

‘Le Papyon’ was a Bandra landmark and has seen the rise of the actor from his Teen Batti days to his grand debut in films with the smash hit Hero. But naturally, the actor is extremely attached to this home.

“I am looking for something in Bandra. As for Le Papyon being a landmark, wherever I will go now it will also become a landmark, eventually. But my little Teen Batti chawl is my biggest landmark,” he says, wistfully. Well, wherever Jackie decides to reside, it will always be home to him and his family. As they say, a family makes a house a home!

shatrughan_sinha-

Actor-turned politician Shatrughan Sinha lashed out at organisers of IPL matches for bringing cheer girls to the stadiums, making a “mockery” of cricket.

“If you are so interested in deploying these cheer girls who dance after hits of fours and sixes, it is better to give chance to the bar girls who have been rendered unemployed after Maharashtra government put a ban on the dance in bars,” said Sinha.

“I am afraid that cricket, which has been shortened from five days to one day and now to the T 20 format, might be reduced to ’Toss-Toss’ in which the winner will be decided through toss,” he said sarcastically.

Strongly criticising the move to bring cheer girls from abroad for performing what he termed as “indecent dance” during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, Sinha said it is “difficult to find cricket in these matches”.

Sinha, who was union minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government, also took exception to the auctioning of players for the IPL tournament.

Shotgun Sinha appealed to the cricketing bosses to seriously ponder over the issue to save the glory of the great sport.
